Grid Reading

I've read it twice, now, and still I find that this bit of information is extremely hard reading. I don't feel dumb because I've found wording within the text seems to me to be unnecessary, i.e. "But although..." and I think that I'm stumbling more on the text than the content. Historically, there is a lot of interesting information, but I find that Kimberly Elam's "Grid Systems: Principles of Organizing Type" explains grids and there uses in a much more comprehensible manner. Also, she includes pages of design vellum with the grid marked out and areas shaded lay on top of a corresponding page with text and images. The physical examples are much clearer.
